Veterans and Military Families Month: Honoring Veterans Across Our Company and Our Communities
At Comcast, military engagement is deeply rooted in our culture, going back decades to our founder, U.S. Navy veteran Ralph Roberts. Our commitment to supporting veterans in the military reaches every part of our business – from providing a top workplace for veterans to supporting veterans’ organizations in the communities we serve and providing exclusive benefits to military customers.
This Veterans and Military Families Month, we thank service members and their families – our customers, team members, and partners. We’re proud to support the military community across the country and here in our region.
Supporting Veteran’s Organizations in Our Communities to Bridge the Digital Divide
Comcast is deeply committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves through Project UP, the company’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.
These grants and partnerships include several local nonprofit organizations – like the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training – delivering digital skills training and certifications to help veterans and military spouses upskill and compete in today’s digital jobs market.
Empowering Our People
An award-winning company for service members and their families, we are committed to creating an inclusive work environment for our military teammates. One of the ways we do this is through our Veterans Network (VetNet) Employee Resource Group, which provides networking and community service opportunities.
It was VetNet members who launched Operation Old Glory at the company, a unique initiative to honor our nation’s symbol and people’s individual connections to the American flag in the communities we serve. Through this program, our dedicated teammates work together to replace worn or damaged flags outside homes and businesses at no cost to the property owners.
“Operation Old Glory is one of the initiatives I’m most proud of as a veteran and member of our VetNet Employee Resource Group,” said Jonas, a Comcast technician based in Salisbury, MD. “I’ve had the honor of replacing multiple flags in the Salisbury area this year and it’s incredibly rewarding to see how much people appreciate the act of kindness. It’s a reminder of the lasting impact we can make in the communities where we live and work.”
As we celebrate Veterans and Military Families Month, we are joining with our community partners across the region to honor military communities:
- On November 7, Neoeko – a veteran and manager at our Xfinity Store in Baltimore, MD – joined a panel discussion in Washington, DC with the American Veterans Center and Wounded Warrior Project to highlight job opportunities for veterans and her personal journey transitioning to the workforce after serving in the military.
- On November 9, we hosted a military appreciation event at our Xfinity Store in Annapolis, MD which highlighted our benefits and offers for service members and veterans.
