Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 – October 15, and Comcast celebrates Hispanic and Latinx culture all year round with our team members in the Beltway Region and across the country.
One leader who helps bring these traditions to life is Xiomara “Terri” Collado-Jessup, an Xfinity Store Manager in Alexandria, VA. Terri brings her heritage into the workplace, ensuring Spanish-speaking customers feel welcome, heard, and valued in the store.
Terri remembers some of her first experiences in this country including first landing at Kennedy Airport in Queens, NY, from the Dominican Republic and being “in awe” of the hustle and bustle of the big city.
“We were welcomed to our new home and neighborhood by our large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. My siblings and I learned to speak, read, and write English, and we learned American History in school. But when we got back to our neighborhood, we only spoke Spanish. From the foods we ate, to the music we listened to, our everyday lives were immersed in our rich culture and heritage.”
Today, Terri says that her children are “proud American Dominicans and will continue to tell our stories.”
