Comcast Donates 100 Laptops to Graduates of Alexandria’s Summer Youth Employment Program

Comcast has awarded 100 laptops to graduates of the City of Alexandria’s Summer Youth Employment Program, continuing its commitment to helping local youth thrive in today’s digital world. The laptops were awarded as a surprise during a graduation ceremony at the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Alexandria on August 7.
The City of Alexandria’s Summer Youth Employment Program places local youth in meaningful summer job opportunities for a six-week period to equip them with the skills and experience needed to succeed in the workforce. Over the past three years, Comcast has donated hundreds of laptops to graduates of the program, helping ensure they have the tools needed to stay connected, promote digital skills and accelerate career development.
“When our young people have the tools to succeed, our entire community benefits,” said Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins. “Comcast’s continued investment in Alexandria’s youth is making a lasting impact by ensuring the next generation of leaders are equipped to thrive in today’s technology-driven workforce.”
This donation builds on Comcast’s deep commitment to supporting Alexandria’s youth. Last year, the company hosted a meet-and-greet with Team USA Paralympian Trevon Jenifer at the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club, where local youth got a chance to hear Trevon’s inspiring life journey as a four-time Paralympic medalist. The Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club serves as a Comcast Lift Zone in the Alexandria community – providing free, high-speed Internet and digital skills training to students and community members.
Comcast’s support for Alexandria youth and this donation of 100 laptops to graduates of the City of Alexandria’s Summer Youth Employment Program aligns with Project UP – Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to connect people to the Internet, create digital opportunity and build a future of unlimited possibilities.
“We are proud to deepen our partnership with the City of Alexandria and support the incredible students of the Summer Youth Employment Program,” said Misty Allen, Vice President of Government Affairs & Community Impact for Comcast’s Beltway Region. “This program is a powerful example of how community investment and collaboration can help young people jumpstart career opportunities.”
Throughout communities across Virginia, Comcast provides Internet, mobile, and entertainment from Xfinity to residents, and connectivity, networking, cybersecurity, mobile, and managed solutions to businesses of all sizes from Comcast Business.
