Comcast today announced it has awarded $20,000 and 100 laptops to the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge to support youth in Martinsville, VA with digital skills training and career development opportunities. The grant and laptops were awarded as a surprise during a holiday celebration with youth at the local Boys & Girls Club chapter on December 16.

In 2021, Comcast opened a Lift Zone at the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge to provide its members with free, high-speed WiFi and digital skills training. The additional $20,000 investment and 100 laptops will further accelerate broadband adoption and digital learning for youth in the community.

“Comcast understands how digital skills training can play a key role in helping youth discover their talents and unleash creativity,” said Marisa Womack, Interim CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge. “We are grateful for this investment, which will take our career development programs to the next level and equip our youth with the skills and confidence to thrive.”

The donation is part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.

“We love being a part of the Martinsville community and are proud to have partners at the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge who are just as passionate about helping the next generation thrive,” said Misty Allen, Vice President of Government Affairs & Community Impact for Comcast’s Beltway Region. “We are excited to strengthen our partnership and help more youth in Martinsville accelerate career opportunities.”

Comcast is deeply committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves. Over the past three years, Comcast has committed more than $39 million in cash and in-kind contributions to more than 125 local non-profits in Virginia. This investment includes the installation of 13 Lift Zones in Virginia – including at the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge – which provide free, high-speed WiFi service and digital skills training to local community centers to promote digital learning.

Throughout Martinsville, Comcast provides Internet, mobile, and entertainment from Xfinity to residents, and connectivity, networking, cybersecurity, mobile, and managed solutions from Comcast Business to businesses.
