Comcast to Bring High-Speed Internet to More Than 650 Homes in Stafford County, Virginia

September 23, 2022

Stafford County Board of Supervisors, in partnership with Comcast, announced the expansion of Comcast’s network deeper into Stafford County as part of its latest project through the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Telecommunications Initiative (VATI) to extend broadband service to more Virginians. The area of the broadband expansion includes the Hartwood and Rock Hill election districts in Stafford County.

This expansion will bring Comcast’s fast, reliable and fiber-rich network along with its innovative suite of Xfinity products and services, including residential broadband speeds up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps), to more than 650 homes in Stafford County.

“This is an area of the county that has been virtually unserved because of a lack of density. I am so pleased that Stafford County, Comcast and the Commonwealth of Virginia are partnering to connect more residents to high-speed Internet,” said Crystal Vanuch, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Stafford County. “Stafford County has worked hard to bring connectivity to our rural residents and this project is another step towards universal coverage.”

“As we saw during the last few years, Internet access is key for many to connect to work, school, family, friends and entertainment, and I am so pleased we can provide this for our Hartwood and Rock Hill residents,” said Supervisor Darrell English, Hartwood District. “Working with such an established partner as Comcast is a plus for our community.”

“We are proud to partner with Stafford County and invest further in Virginia by bringing our fiber-rich network and advanced products and services to unserved areas and connect more residents to broadband,” said Misty Allen, Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Comcast’s Beltway Region. “This partnership bolsters our continued investment in Virginia and underscores our commitment to ensure individuals and communities across the state can fully participate in the digital economy.”

Construction is currently underway and the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. Residents can check Welcome2Xfinity.com to see if their address is included in the expansion project. Residents who are currently served by Comcast can visit Xfinity.com or call 1-800-XFINITY to inquire about service, or learn more about the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides eligible households with up to $30/month toward their Internet and/or mobile service ($75/month on Tribal lands). The credit can be applied to any tier of Xfinity Internet service, including Internet Essentials, along with mobile service through Xfinity Mobile.

Residential customers will be able to take advantage of Xfinity’s full suite of Internet products, including:

  • Supersonic WiFi: Advanced WiFi technology from powerful gateways capable of delivering gigabit speeds to support the ever-increasing number of connected devices in homes.
  • Advanced Security: Help keep loved ones safe and secure online with xFi Advanced Security, included at no extra cost with an xFi Gateway. Advanced Security helps protect customers’ devices from billions of cyberthreats a year, and customers can add xFi Complete to extend that security on the go.
  • Powerful Connection: The newest Gateway provides a more reliable connection for all connected devices. And with xFi Complete, get wall-to-wall WiFi coverage throughout the home, with an xFi Pod included if recommended.
  • Unprecedented Control: xFi, a digital dashboard to control the home WiFi network that includes Advanced Security protecting every device on the network from malware and security threats.
  • Xfinity Mobile: A mobile service built for the way consumers use mobile today, with the Internet at the core of the experience, Xfinity Mobile can save customers hundreds a year on their mobile bills.
  • Ultimate Entertainment: Flex, a free 4K platform for Internet-only customers that seamlessly delivers streaming content.

Over the last three years, Comcast has invested more than $732 million in technology and infrastructure in Virginia, including improvements to its broadband network. Earlier this year, Comcast announced it expanded rural broadband access to nearly 9,000 rural households and growing across Virginia. The company’s latest commitment to Virginia will provide service to more than 650 additional rural homes, bringing Comcast’s broadband and innovative services to nearly 1.9 million homes and businesses across the state.

Comcast is also deeply committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves. The company’s recent community partnerships in Virginia have totaled $34.7 million in cash and in-kind contributions to more than 160 local non-profits over the last three years. This investment includes the installation of 12 Lift Zones, which provide free WiFi service to local community centers to promote digital learning. Lift Zones are part of Project UP, Comcast’s comprehensive,10-year, $1 billion commitment to help build a future of unlimited possibilities and the continuation of the company’s long history of giving back to communities where it provides service and where its employees live and work.
