The votes are in and Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Md., is this year’s $5,000 grand prize winner of the Xfinity 1 Voice Regional Gospel Showcase. The choir, which was one of four gospel groups that advanced to the finals, won with the song, “Praise the Lord.” The other finalists included Chester L. Burke & CO Ministry (Washington, D.C.); First Baptist Church of Highland Park (Landover, Md.); and Fort Washington Baptist Church (Fort Washington, Md.).
Each gospel group performed live Saturday night (Sept. 28) before celebrity judges and gospel sensations Fred Hammond, Kierra Sheard and Deitrick Haddon, as well as Praise 104.1 FM on-air personality Cheryl Jackson. The event, which was held at the new Prince George’s Community College Center for Performing Arts in Largo, Md., also featured performances by Hammond, Sheard, Haddon and gospel singer, Tim Bowman, Jr.
The Xfinity 1 Voice Regional Gospel Showcase – in its second year – is designed to celebrate the breadth of outstanding local gospel talent within houses of worship in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., while highlighting key faith-based initiatives that bring the community together.
