From April through mid-May, more than 8,600 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners “made change happen” as they volunteered at nearly 100 project sites across Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. as part of the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day. Activities included the beautification of schools, sorting and serving food, landscaping community centers and parks, hosting local blood drives and more.
We’re proud of the positive difference our volunteers make on Comcast Cares Day and every day of the year as they give back to the neighborhoods where our employees and customers live and work. We always look forward to strengthening these communities alongside our great local partners. Here’s a look at some of the impact our volunteers made this year in the Beltway Region:
Delaware
- Building a KaBOOM! playground outside of the Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club of Delaware, in partnership with NASCAR Xfinity Series Drivers
- Painting and general clean-up at the Georgetown Boys & Girls Club
Maryland
- Gardening, painting (indoor and outdoor), mulching flower pots, planting trees and picking up trash and debris on and around school grounds in the Collington Square neighborhood in East Baltimore
- Partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Westminster on several projects including decorating the club with customized painted tiles, landscaping at Carroll Lutheran Village, beautifying downtown Westminster and painting and planting at the club
- Working with students and judging Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) competition at Bowie State University
- Beautifying indoor and outdoor areas for Hero Dogs, Inc., a service dog kennel, in Gaithersburg
- Planting and mulching the annual flowers along the waterfront at Plant the Town as well as cleaned up areas along the marsh, wetland and beach areas and general beautification projects throughout the town of North Beach
Virginia
- Planting flowers, painting, mulching and beautifying The Arc of Greater Prince William in partnership with Leadership Prince William in Woodbridge
- Cleaning, planting flowers and plants and beautifying the athletic complex at James Wood Middle School in Winchester
- Sorting and refurbishing computers for distribution to low-income veterans with Tech for Troops in Richmond
- Making dog and cat treats and beautifying the interior and exterior of the Louisa Humane Society in Mineral
- Planting and maintaining the gardens part of the Urban Agricultural Collective of Charlottesville
West Virginia
- Cleaning, painting and mulching the Wade Center in Bluefield
- Painting, landscaping and general clean up Boys & Girls Clubs of the Eastern Panhandle in Martinsburg
- Landscaping, building raised flower beds, creating dog and cat toys and general cleanup of the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter
Washington, D.C.
- Painting murals, landscaping, mulching, weeding and planting flowers and beautifying the grounds of Eastern Senior High School located in Ward 6
- Landscaping and general clean-up on the National Mall in partnership with the National Park Service
- Preparing snack bags for families and cleaning the community living spaces at Ronald McDonald House Charities
- Hosting a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workshop with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Alumni Alliance
