Our Partnerships: The Arc
At Comcast NBCUniversal, we stand for including everyone. We believe that a diverse and inclusive company is a more effective company, leading us to approach diversity as a driver for business growth and innovation. We also believe that technology, and the doors it opens, can be a game changer for everyone — including people with disabilities — and are committed to making our products, services and experiences accessible to the widest possible audience.
Today, we look at our partnership with The Arc, an advocate for the rights of all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families, and how digital technology is improving their lives.
In the Beltway Region, we work closely with our local The Arc chapters to provide support and grants for their Tech Coaching Centers (TCC), a full learning lab that offers structured curriculums and individualized consultations designed to help individuals with I/DD use technology to achieve greater independence both personally and professionally.
We recently celebrated TCC open houses at The Arc Southern Maryland and The Arc Carroll County. Both events provided an opportunity for members of the local communities to learn about the successes of the program and see a demonstration of the available technologies and popular apps.
The Arc’s Tech Coaching Center program is part of a multi-year national partnership between Comcast NBCUniversal and The Arc. The partnership enables Comcast NBCUniversal and The Arc to achieve their shared goals of expanding technology resources for people with I/DD to ensure everyone has the tools to reach his or greatest potential.
Additionally, this past April, more than 50 members of the Beltway Region’s Young Professionals Network (YPN), volunteered at The Arc Baltimore as part of our 17th annual Comcast Cares Day. Comcast YPN Members joined The Arc members in adaptive sports, corn hole, art classes, bingo and more.
