Comcast Awards $20,000 to A.D. Lewis Community Center in Huntington, WV to Support Digital Skills Training

Comcast has awarded a $20,000 grant to the A.D. Lewis Community Center in Huntington, West Virginia to help members of the community with broadband adoption and digital skills training.

The A.D. Lewis Community Center supports local youth by offering a safe environment for education, food assistance, career development and recreation. In 2021, Comcast opened a Lift Zone at the center to provide free, high-speed WiFi service and promote digital learning for the center’s visitors. The additional $20,000 investment will help further accelerate digital skills development and career opportunities for youth in the community.

“As someone who grew up at the A.D. Lewis Community Center, I know just how impactful this donation from Comcast will be for the youth who come here every day,” said Maria Hill, Director of the A.D. Lewis Community Center. “When coupled with the free WiFi Comcast already provides at the center, this grant will help take our learning center to the next level and ensure our members are ready to thrive in today’s increasingly digital world.”

In addition to the grant, Comcast volunteers joined the Sportsman Channel at the A.D. Lewis Community Center to prepare and provide meals for more than 200 people in need from the Huntington area as part of the Hunt.Fish.Feed. program. Launched in 2007 by the Sportsman Channel, Hunt.Fish.Feed. continues to raise awareness of the ongoing hunger crisis in the United States. Comcast’s support of the Hunt.Fish.Feed. program builds on its long history of community service and partnerships, and aligns with Team UP, the company’s national employee volunteer program.

“We love being a part of the Huntington community and are proud to deepen our partnerships with both the A.D. Lewis Community Center and the Sportsman Channel to support people in the area,” said Misty Allen, Vice President of Government Affairs & Community Impact for Comcast’s Beltway Region. “Partnerships like this are at the heart of our mission to bridge the digital divide and give back to the communities where we live, work and serve.”

Comcast’s grant is part of Project UP, the company’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.

Over the past three years, the company has committed $4.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions to more than 35 local non-profits in West Virginia. This investment includes the installation of 10 Lift Zones – including at the A.D. Lewis Community Center – which provide free, high-speed WiFi service to local community centers to promote digital learning.
