At Comcast NBCUniversal, we celebrate the people, programs and partners who help us open opportunities across the country and drive positive change. Today, we look at our partnership with the United Way.
Helping bring visibility to the United Way’s mission and motivating our employees to be United Way volunteers are examples of how we partner year-round, including our Employee Giving Campaign that is held each fall and raises funds to enable the local United Ways to address issues specific to their communities. Our dedicated employees are holding several fundraisers to not only raise money for the United Way, but to raise awareness for the work it does. It also enables our employees to work together and give back to their local communities.
But this partnership expands beyond our Employee Giving Campaign. Earlier this year, Comcast employees partnered with United Way and NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers to build a KaBOOM! playground outside of the Boys & Girls Club of Delaware’s Greater Dover location as part of the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day. And, Comcast and United Way set up back-to-school boxes and purchased school supplies for Nicholas Orem Middle School in Hyattsville, MD.
Since 2001, our company-wide United Way Employee Giving Campaign has provided more than $100 million in total support to local United Ways throughout the country and in 2003, Comcast joined United Way’s Global Corporate Leadership Program.
We also owe a huge thank you to our local United Way chapters across the Beltway Region that have been instrumental in helping to spread the word about Comcast’s Internet Essentials program, which is helping low-income Americans overcome the digital divide and provides low-cost Internet at home.
Our partnership with the United Way is one that has been long-lived — it was the first organization our founder, Ralph Roberts, invited to Comcast — and we are proud to continue to work together to bring positive change to our communities.
