Comcast Business Partners with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and HDOnTap to Launch the 2019 Richmond Falcon Cam

Falcon Cam

It’s that time of year for wildlife watchers to follow Richmond’s nesting pair of peregrine falcons.  For the third year, Comcast Business is partnering with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) and HDOnTap to provide Internet connectivity for the live broadcast.  The live feed of the nest located at the top of the Riverfront Plaza building in downtown Richmond is available at https://blog.wildlife.virginia.gov/falcon-cam/.

Each year, people from around the country enjoy watching the drama of the fast-flying birds — the first egg being laid, chicks emerging from their shells and, during ‘fledgewatch,’ the nail-biting reports of the initial flight of the falcon chicks.

“Comcast Business is excited to partner with The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to deliver high-speed Internet service for a project that has delighted and educated so many in the Greater Richmond Area and beyond over the years,” said Juan Dominguez, Vice President, Comcast Business for Comcast’s Beltway Region.

The Richmond pair typically nest in March following a period of courtship, with the first egg laid mid- to late-March.  The Falcon cam remains active through egg laying, incubation, and hatching, and follows the growth of the chicks until they fledge (take their first flight) or it is determined that the nest has failed for the season.
